Privately printed in an edition of 1,000 copies by Jacob Brussel under the fictitious Medusa imprint. An additional 200–500 unbound sheets were produced for later distribution, accounting for nine known variants. This first American paperback edition, printed in Mexico, precedes the authorized Grove Press edition (1961) by over 20 years. Housed in a custom cream cloth clamshell case.
